Glen Canyon Dam Operations

Releases from Glen Canyon Dam in January 2008 will average 13,000 cubic feet per second (cfs) with a total of 800,000 acre-feet scheduled to be released for the month. On Mondays through Fridays in January, daily release fluctuations due to load following will likely vary between a low of 9,000 cfs (during late evening and early morning off-peak hours) to a high of 17,000 cfs (during daylight and early evening on-peak hours). On Saturdays and Sundays, release fluctuations will likely vary between a low of 9,000 cfs to a high of 16,500 cfs.

Releases in February 2008 are scheduled to be the lower than January 2008. A total of 600,000 acre-feet is scheduled to be released in February 2008 which is a daily average of 10,400 cfs.

Groups Appeal GC Ruling on Park's 100th Birthday

Four conservation groups filed an appeal today to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals as part of their on-going effort to protect and restore the Grand Canyon's natural sounds and wilderness values from motorized and commercial uses.
 

Grand Canyon 2009 Main Lottery Dates Announced

January 18th, 2008

In an announcement e-mailed only to registered applicants on January 17, 2008, Grand Canyon National Park announced the dates for the main 2009 non-commercial river permits lottery.
 
Applications will be taken for the 2009 river running season beginning on February 1st through noon on February 26, 2008. The announcement did not say when the main 2009 drawing will be held or when lottery winners would be notified.
 

RRFW Posts Easy Comment Form for Proposed USFS Rules

The United States Forest Service (USFS) is taking public comment on proposed new rule changes which heavily favor outfitter/guided access to public lands. The comment deadline is February 19, 2008.
 
The massive countrywide rulemaking changes will jeopardize do-it-yourself access to all types of recreation on Forest Service lands. This includes do-it-yourself (guide-free) hunters, fishermen, off-road enthusiasts, hikers, backpackers, canoeists, jet-boaters, paddlers, mountain-bikers, photographers, and river runners.
