Average Daily Encounters (Number Of People)

This page allows for a simple calculation of the average daily encounters in terms of number of people. Default values are provided for the summer season. If you want to look at the two distinct periods of type of launches for alternative F instead of lumping them as in the defaults then these can be entered and then press the calculate button at the bottom to recalculate the average daily encounters. Or it might be useful to calculate the average daily encounters in the shoulder or winter seasons to compare the alternatives.

The convective part of the encounters is due to differences in relative speeds (or trip lengths) of the various types of trips. The diffusive component is the encounters due to random fluctuations in speeds amongst nearby river groups.
